Content: We were unable to continue watching The Emperor's Club, as the electricity went out. Instead, students paired up and studied for the chapter 2 test until it was time to move desks for BBQ set-up.

Thursday, September 27, 2007 (gold - block 8)

Collected: Nothing

Content: We began by reviewing handout 8-B that was completed in small groups in class on Tuesday, September 25. After discussing these scenarios, students were asked to complete a second 'What is the Motive?' worksheet individually; this was then handed in. Miss Chew reviewed each of these (in order to make sure each student understands the concepts of moral object and motive) and returned them to the students; we then went over them as a class. The remainder of the notes from chapter 2 were given. Students then had time in class to complete handout 8-C, Alternatives and Effects, individually. If this was not completed and turned in by the end of the block, it is homework due on Monday, October 1.

Content: We began the notes for the STOP Sign model for making moral decisions. After learning about the moral object and the intention, students applied the lesson to the 'What is the Motive?' worksheet (students worked in pairs; we then reviewed it as a large group). We then talked about the role that circumstances play in making a moral decision and reviewed some scenarios in which circumstances may or may not play a role in the moral goodness or evilness of the case. We finished by working in small groups on a worksheet determining the facts that need to be known in different situations before making a decision. We will go over this in class on Thursday, September 27.

Content: The chapter one tests were returned, reviewed, and recollected; students were asked to make corrections using their notes and the text. There was then an opportunity for reflection about the freshman retreat (done in writing), which was then collected. We also continued notes for the STOP Sign Moral Decision Making model. We also completed more 'What is the Motive?' scenarios, determining the moral object, intention, and whether the entire scenario was moral or immoral.

Content: We began with a visit to the guidance office/career services center (this lasted about half of the block). When the students returned, there was an opportunity for reflection about the freshman retreat (done in writing), which was then collected. Content: Students were asked to read pages 31 & 32 in their Morality text, and then respond in writing to the three questions in the margin of page 32. We then discussed these answers. They also chose one of the quotes on page 33 and wrote a paragraph about what it meant. We discussed each quote and talked about whether or not it fit with the basic ideas of the Christian Church. Notes were given on pages 34-39, the Truths about Humanity (that can be learned from the Creation Accounts in the book of Genesis). Students were then asked to read those pages at the end of class to reinforce the ideas presented in class today.
