Notes included information on how the united kingdom of Israel split into the northern and southern kingdoms and the role of the prophets in the northern kingdom. Specifically, notes were given on Elijah, Elisha, and Amos. We began to talk about Hosea by listening to the song "Hosea", but ran out of time to take any notes on and discuss him. With a partner first and then as a large group, students discussed #2 on page 121 - how the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence. We also had a large group discussion: #4 on page 122 - are issues of poverty, injustice, and corruption matters of politics or religion?

Tuesday, April 3, 2007 (blue)

Chapter 5 exercises were collected; service hour reminders were distributed - last date for service hours to be turned in is May 18, 2007. This allows me a 2-3 week time period before the end of the school year to review them and for the students to complete any missing information. Twenty hours must be completed by that date.

After viewing the judges' comic strips, we discussed each of the stories and their characters. We then looked at the story of Ruth, an outsider who was loyal to her mother-in-law and adopted Yahweh as her God. Wednesday, March 28, 2007 (blue)

The due date for the chapter 5 exercises has been changed to Tuesday, April 3; all work must be turned in on or before this date. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to get the work to school that day.

We talked briefly about the role of the judges in biblical times. Students then were assigned one of three of the major judges - Deborah, Gideon, or Samson - to create a comic strip. The comic strip must tell the story of the assigned judge and must have between 6 and 9 frames; each student is creating his/her own cartoon. It will be graded on creativity and how well the story is told. Approximately half of Friday's class will be allotted to finish the comic strips. We will then take a look at everyone's finished product.

You will have time in class to work in your groups on Friday, March 9, 2007. This project is due on Tuesday, March 13, 2007. The homework assignment, #8 on page 62 of the text, was collected as well.

Monday, March 5, 2007 (blue)

The Passover worksheets were returned today and we went over the correct answers. We then watched episode #2 of Joan of Arcadia, and discussed how God may ask us to do things we do not understand initially, like Joan's joining AP Chemistry. However, God always has a reason for His requests; Joan being in AP Chemistry had far-reaching effects, especially on her older brother, Kevin. Homework for Wednesday, March 7, is to complete #8 at the bottom of page 62 in your textbook. You must have three paragraphs (one for each thing you take for granted) ready to hand in at the start of next class. You do NOT need to copy a psalm that refers to how God takes care of us. This may be typed, but does not have to be. NOTE: Block 3 also took the Exodus quiz today.

Wednesday, February 28, 2007

Thursday, March 1, 2007 (blue)

After taking the quiz on the Exodus, Miss Linehan will speak to us about her experiences in Uganda this past summer. The intention is to tie in the oppression of the Ugandan people to the story of the Exodus - the oppression of the Hebrew slaves and their cries for freedom. **NOTE** Block 3 ran out of time and did not take the quiz; they will do so on Monday, March 5.

Tuesday, February 27, 2007

As a follow up to the Prince of Egypt, we completed the Exodus worksheet together, as a class. There will be a quiz on this information on Thursday, March 1, 2007. We also took a look at some Negro Spirituals, and related the cries of freedom of the blacks during the times of slavery and the Civil Rights Movement in the United States to the Exodus and the events leading up to it. The last part of class was an open note "quiz" on the reading you did for today on the Passover celebration.
